It’s easy to get caught up in the bustle of life to the extent you forget about yourself. Thanks, the holidays are here. The thanksgiving holidays remind us to go back to the center, focus on all that’s good, and count all the blessings we’ve had no matter how small they can be. Nevertheless, the holidays remind us to give gratitude.

Gratitude

We all have to admit that we sometimes forget to practice gratitude. First, I know you are thinking why should we practice gratitude in the first place. Well, ere is why.

Giving gratitude is good for mental health. It’s because gratitude stimulates your neurotransmitters – these are hormones that bring happiness into your living experience. While this may sound like another task for you to add to your busy to-do list during the holidays, we believe it’s worth the effort.

The act of practicing gratitude stems from the act of practicing mindfulness – a natural extension of maintaining a regular yoga practice. So, how do you do this? Step onto your yoga mat each day for a few minutes. Remember to turn off the noise of the world and immerse yourself in the practice. Immediately, you are aware of your body, you’ll start feeling the air, sounds, and smells that bombarding your senses. There you go, you are already practicing gratitude.

The following are five additional ways that can help you practice gratitude during the holidays.

  • Come up with a daily intention

Come up with your schedule that gives you a few minutes each day to allow you to channel positive thoughts. It can either be first thing you do in the morning, during lunch break, or at night before you go to sleep. By coming up with a schedule, you will not only set the tone for the day but also for the days ahead. Moreover, it will help you set an agenda for the day.

  • Have a gratitude journal

With our busy schedules, we are likely to miss the obvious blessings around us. Remember, waking up while feeling healthy is a blessing too. Or even your neighbor clearing your garbage cans or your husband doing the dishes after dinner.

Don’t allow the negatives overwhelm you too much. Start writing down these glimmers whether small or big in a journal. The notes section of your phone can also serve the purpose.

  • Reflect on the people who you are grateful for
Gratitude

Nobody lacks someone to be grateful for in their lives. It can be one of your family members, friends, or people in the past. Such people are mentors or even just ordinary people who have impacted your life in a positive way. Don’t forget such people in your life as they left you a happy and motivated person.

  • Reflect on your passions

Look for ways to express gratitude by identifying what excites you and brings joy to you. Prioritize your time, energy, and money to causes you believe. If it’s painting or writing articles, go for it and give it all you got. Remember to also help those who are less fortunate.

  • Enjoy nature

Don’t stay the whole weekend on your couch watching movies. Go for a walk, ride a bike, or take a hike. Observe the beauty of the earth and breathe in the fresh air. Most of us take the beauty of nature for granted. Take a close look at it and examine its surroundings and indeed you’ll realize how beautiful the earth is.

Final Thoughts

It’s not too late for you to start practicing gratitude during the holidays. Make a resolution and start investing in practicing gratitude. Practice awareness of everything you are grateful for during this festive season and you’ll discover all the aspects that fulfill your life.
